Severe Weather Map is a small, noncommercial community project. It has no accounts, advertising, paid features, or sale of personal information. The map is delivered as a static website; weather and map information comes directly from the providers described below.

Information you choose to provide

If you submit a city or region, the search text is sent directly from your browser to Open-Meteo for geocoding. It is not sent to the site's first-party analytics. If you activate Near me, the browser asks for location permission and sends rounded latitude and longitude directly to the National Weather Service API to find warnings affecting that point. Location is not requested in the background and is not stored by this application.

Automatic provider requests

• Google Maps Platform supplies the base map and map assets. Google receives ordinary connection and map-request information.
• The National Weather Service supplies public alerts and forecast context. Opening alert details can send the center of the alert's published geometry to NWS to request a nearby forecast; this is not the user's location.
• RainViewer supplies radar metadata and tiles. Tile requests describe the visible map area and zoom level.
• Open-Meteo supplies location-search results using GeoNames data.

Like any web request, these providers receive connection metadata such as IP address, browser information, and request time. Their handling of that information is governed by their own policies, including the Google Privacy Policy, RainViewer Privacy Policy, and Open-Meteo terms.

First-party analytics

Analytics loads only on weather.dlauinger.com. It records anonymous session and browser-local visitor identifiers, the page path, referrer, page title, language, timezone, and coarse screen and viewport information. URL query strings and fragments are removed before analytics delivery. Search text, coordinates, warning text, and copied or opened alert URLs are not included in analytics events. The tracker does not send events when Global Privacy Control or a supported Do Not Track signal is enabled.

Browser storage

The map stores an explicit light or dark theme choice under weather-theme. When first-party analytics is active and no privacy signal disables it, the tracker uses browser storage for anonymous session, visitor, and landing-page identifiers. You can remove these values by clearing site data in your browser.

Security and retention

The site does not intentionally collect search text, coordinates, or warning content on its own server. Ordinary web-server security logs and accepted analytics events may be retained according to the portfolio operator's security and maintenance settings. No internet transmission or storage system can be guaranteed completely secure.

Changes and questions
